QC mayor orders probe into leaked alleged Ronaldo Valdez video

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte ordered the city’s police force to probe the leaked video that allegedly showed where the late veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez was found.

In a statement on Wednesday, Belmonte directed Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan to launch an investigation against involved personnel and implement the necessary sanctions to those proven responsible for the spread of the video.

“This is a breach of privacy and basic human decency against the individual and his bereaved family,” the mayor said.

The 77-year old actor passed away on December 17, 2023 at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife Marife Gibbs and their children, Janno and Melissa Gibbs.

In response to the said video, Belmonte said “a thorough review of all protocols in conducting emergency response and investigation should be conducted, with respect to the rights of all parties in a case”.

According to Belmonte, police procedures should have been executed without violating confidentiality.

She also asked the public not to spread the video in respect to the late actor’s family.

“It is highly distasteful for anyone to use the sad and unfortunate demise of an individual to gain social media mileage and popularity,” she said.

In a briefing on Wednesday, Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo announced that the first responder and the responder's station commander were relieved from their posts as a result of the supposed leak.

Pending the results of investigation on their liability, the dismissed cops are facing administrative and criminal charges for the spread of the said video.

“This is a regrettable incident na hindi dapat kumalat sa (that shouldn't have gone viral on) social media," Fajardo said.

Meanwhile, actor Janno Gibbs took to Instagram asking for privacy to mourn the loss of his father.

“The family would like to request that you respect our privacy in our grieving moment. Your prayers and condolences are much appreciated,” he said.—RF, GMA Integrated News
