At least two commuters were injured by an allegedly drunk motorcycle-riding enforcer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on the EDSA Busway, it was reported by 24 Oras on Monday.

A video shared by the Spevcial Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation Department of Transportation (SAICTDOTr) of the southbound portion of the EDSA Busway near Main Avenue in Quezon City on Saturday at around 1 a.m. showed an apparently intoxicated MMDA traffic enforcer who was in uniform trying to get back on his motorcycle after the incident.

At one point, the enforcer and his motorcycle fell down while trying to move to the curb.

Another motorcycle rider who witnessed this and a bus conductor asked help from Coast Guard personnel who were on duty at the area. The PCG talked to the MMDA enforcer and prevented him from leaving the scene.

The person taking the video said at least 3 people were sideswiped by the fast-moving enforcer. According to the DOTr, the enforcer entered the Busway, saying he did not know it was an area where buses stopped for passengers.

According to the DOTr, the enforcer refused to surrender his driver's license and angrily told the coast guardsmen that they should be helping him instead since they were all authorities who enforced traffic laws.

The GMA News team is still trying to get more details and the condition of the commuters who were injured in the accident.

MMDA chairman Romando Artes said he has ordered an investigation and will look at the appropriate penalties for the enforcer if he is found guilty for the incident.—Rhoel Fernandez, GMA Integrated News
