Motorcycle speeds through wrong side of expressway
A motorcycle rider violated traffic laws twice for entering an expressway and counterflowing between big trucks.
According to Joseph Morong's report on "24 Oras," a motorcycle was seen in video footage speeding along an expressway in the middle of the night.
The North Luzon Expressway Corporation (NLEX) confirmed that it happened at the R-10 ramp in the Port Area in Manila going to the NLEX Harbor Link, where large trucks pass.
According to NLEX authorities, they could not trace the motorcycle rider but said he may have been confused upon entering the expressway.
“Parang nagkamali siya (He likely made a mistake),” said Robin Ignacio, head of Traffic Operation Department of NLEX Corporation.
NLEX said it was possible that the rider realized he was not allowed on the expressway, so he made a U-turn.
“Mali nga po siya ng akyat. Umakyat po sya sa R-10. Bawal po ang mga under-capacity na motor, 400cc po pababa,” said Mark Archie Bahana, NLEX patrol officer.
(He entered the wrong road. He went up to R-10. Under-capacity motors, 400cc or less, are not allowed in the highway.)
The corporation said it will add signage to prevent accidents.
“Ang pinagusapan po namin with our asset management baka we need to review po 'yung signages ulit. Baka lang po hindi masyadong visible dun sa mga motorcycles,” Ignacio said.
(We discussed with our asset management that we may need to review the signage again. It may not be visible on motorcycles.
NLEX warned those who intend to counterflow on the expressway may be penalized by P2,000 for reckless driving. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
