BuCor chief Catapang's backup car shot in QC; no one hurt
Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday shot the backup car of Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) director general Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. in Quezon City.
In a statement, the BuCor said Catapang lent the car to the agency’s deputy director general for administration Al Perreras and was driven by Corrections Officer 1 Cornelio Colalong with passenger Corrections Officer 1 Leonardo Cabaniero.
At around 6:30 a.m. while the vehicle was on Skyway to pick up Perreras, the perpetrators onboard a vehicle overtook another backup car, driven by Corrections Officer 2 Edwin Berroya with passenger Corrections Officer 2 Michael Magsanoc, and fired at the vehicle carrying Colalong and Cabaniero.
“The vehicle was hit at the rear windshield which shattered the bullet proof glass without penetration but the trajectory of the bullet was towards the passenger front side of the vehicle where Perreras usually sits,” the BuCor said.
“Luckily, Cabaniero who was seated at the back of the driver was not hit,” it added.
After the shooting, the vehicle carrying the perpetrators immediately drove away to the Nagtahan exit of the Skyway.
Perreras ordered his security personnel to report the incident to the police station, according to the BuCor.
According to Catapang, he and Perreras have been receiving death threats since they implemented various reforms in BuCor.
Despite this, the BuCor said the incident will not deter the officials from continuing their efforts. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
