Number coding lifted on Holy Wednesday, says MMDA
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday said the number coding scheme will be lifted earlier than scheduled this Holy Week.
Instead of Maundy Thursday, March 28, number coding will be lifted starting Holy Wednesday, March 27, and will last until Good Friday, March 29, according to MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana on Super Radyo dzBB.
There is no number coding during Saturdays and Sundays.
"Sa kaalaman ng ating mga mananakay, starting tomorrow lifted po muna ang ating number coding (for the information of our motorists, number coding will be lifted starting tomorrow)," Lipana said.
The scheme, formally known as the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), bars vehicles on EDSA and other thoroughfares in the National Capital Region one day a week during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., depending on the last number of their license plate.
Vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 must obey the prohibition on Monday; vehicles with license plates ending in 3 and 4 on Tuesday; 5 and 6 on Wednesday; 7 and 8 on Thursday; and 9 and 0 on Friday.
Malacañang has suspended work in government offices on Holy Wednesday from 12 noon onwards to allow employees to travel to the provinces in observance of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
The suspension of work in private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective employers. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
