Motorcycle counterflow along Skyway caught on camera

A motorcycle rider was caught counterflowing at the Balintawak exit of the Skyway, according to Joseph Morong’s report on "24 Oras."

The motorist who almost got hit sent the dash-cam video to the mobility network Visor, which showed the rider counterflowing at around midnight on Monday.

The rider was heading towards the Balintawak Toll Plaza but it was not clear why he passed through the expressway.

Early Wednesday, a delivery rider was also seen passing along the expressway.

“Kaya dumerecho, pagtingin ko Skyway, expressway na, mali. Dapat doon ako, sir,” the rider said.

(I kept going, but when I checked, I was already in Skyway, expressway, it was the wrong way. I should be there, sir.)

It was observed that riders coming from Balintawak probably thought that passing through the road would lead them back to Quirino Highway.

According to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation, even though they have signages at the entrance of NLEX, the motorcycle seen in the video still entered from A. Bonifacio/Monumento.

It said their security guard at Quirino Highway did not notice the rider entered the NLEX service road.

“Our security guard at Quirino Highway entrance did not see any motorcycle trying to access NLEX from the service road. Based on the video, the security guard of Skyway was also not able to flag down the rider, who went straight to Sgt. Rivera exit. They were not able to apprehend as well,” said NLEX spokesperson Donna Marcelo.

“As an additional security measure, we will add more plastic barriers between NLEX Lane 4 and Skyway off-ramp to make it longer and harder for MC’s to make a u-turn,” she added.
