LTO: Collected fines in NCR up by nearly 205% in Q1 2024


The fines collected from erring motorists in Metro Manila increased by almost 205% in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, the Land Transportation Office-National Capital Region (LTO-NCR) said on Monday.

In a statement, the LTO-NCR said a total of P26,498,535 of government revenue were earned from these fines from January to March this year.

A total of 10,488 motorists were apprehended for traffic violations, also higher compared to the 3,662 traffic violators apprehended in the same period in 2023, according to the LTO-NCR.

Most of the traffic violations were under the Land Transportation and Traffic Code involving unregistered motor vehicles and driving vehicles with defective accessories, devices, equipment, or parts.

Other notable violations were driving while wearing slippers, failure to carry OR/CR while driving, reckless driving, driving without a valid license, disregarding traffic signs, and obstruction.

Other motorists were also caught not using a seat belt, not wearing the standard protective motorcycle helmet, violating the Children Safety on Motorcycle Law as well as the Anti-Distracted Driving Act, and driving under the influence of prohibited drugs. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
