DOH seeks justice for nurse killed by motorcycle rider

The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday is seeking justice for the 39-year-old nurse who was shot to death after he tried to help the motorcycle-riding suspect who figured in an accident in Caloocan City.

In a message to reporters, DOH spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo stressed that “harm should never be exchanged for help.”

“The Department of Health joins the families of Nurse Mark John Blanco and Mr Willy Maranom in seeking swift justice for their loved ones,” Domingo said.

Blanco, who left behind five children, sustained gunshot wounds in his head and arms. Aside from him, a resident who appeared at the scene was also fatally shot by the same suspect.

Police said that the suspect became angry when his felled motorcycle would not start and shot the nurse who was only trying to help him.

The suspect, a 54-year-old security officer who just came from a drinking spree, was later arrested by the police after he attempted to flee from the scene. A multiple murder complaint has already been filed against him.

According to the police, bullets from the gun found in the suspect's possession matched those recovered from the crime scene.
