PNP-HPG probes viral 'escort-for-hire service'
The Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) is looking into a post on social media claiming that a civilian car was escorted by police to avoid traffic.
“An investigation is already undertaken to determine the veracity of the recent viral posts and misunderstanding related to this matter,” said the PNP-HPG in a statement on Friday.
The PNP-HPG emphasized that it will “not tolerate” any escort-for-hire services among its personnel.
“We will file the necessary cyber-crime related offenses to those individuals who will post any malicious statements that will malign/tarnish the image of the HPG and the possible criminal and administrative charges for or personnel,” it added.
The PNP-HPG is mandated to enforce traffic laws and regulations and handle crimes committed on major thoroughfares.
A female social media user earlier drew flak after she claimed that her husband hired the services of the PNP-HPG so she can easily get out of traffic on her way to her destination.
In a now-expired Instagram story, the post showed PNP-HPG personnel riding a motorcycle in front of her vehicle.
The PNP-HPG assured the public of a “thorough and transparent” investigation.
