Cop, 2 cohorts arrested for 'rentangay' scam
A police lieutenant colonel was arrested over his alleged involvement in the “rentangay” scheme.
In Marisol Abdurahmann’s 24 Oras report Monday, the Special Operation Division of the PNP Highway Patrol Group (HPG-SOD) said the cop and his two cohorts were illegally selling a rented sport utility vehicle (SUV) online. An interested buyer asked for the vehicle's registration number and contacted the owner.
Upon contact, the buyer found out the SUV was not for sale and the owner lost contact with the persons who rented the vehicle.
“’Yung involved po na sasakayan ay worth P1.2 million, ibinebenta nila ng worth P350k. So ma-eenganyo ang ating mga biktima,” said HPG-SOD Chief Colonel Joel Casupanan.
(The vehicle is worth P1.2 million but they were selling it for only P350K. The victims were enticed.)
“Isang lalaki, isang babae, sila po yung aktwal na person na nag renta at tumangay ng sasakyan,” Casupanan said. “Andun din po s’ya during the transaction”.
(We arrested a man and a woman. The cop was also there.)
The cop is a lieutenant colonel who served as the head of the Makati Police Investigation Unit. He is currently a member of the Eastern Police District (EPD).
Meanwhile, the HPG-SOD said the group of suspects were involved in the illegal scheme for some time and numerous complaints have been filed against them.
“May mga link diagram na po kami, may mga association matrix na po kami na nako connect po sila…Personalities na nahuli natin ay may mga previous involvement na po with the same modus,” Casupanan added.
(We have diagrams proving their links. The personalities we arrested have long been doing this with the same scheme.)
The suspects have denied the allegations.
“Sorry to the PNP organization for putting the organization in a bad light. This is my personal choice and I will suffer the consequences. It’s only the court will prove my innocence and the degree of my participation,” said the arrested cop who claimed he was in the buy and sell business of cars.—Sundy Locus/RF, GMA Integrated News
