Some Metro Manila residents evacuate amid Habagat
Some residents in the National Capital Region (NCR) have evacuated from their homes due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, according to local government units (LGUs) on Wednesday.
In Quezon City, 27 individuals or nine families from two barangays were staying in two evacuation centers as of 10:35 a.m.
“Bilang pag-iingat sa pagbaha na dulot ng malakas na pag-ulan, mayroong itinalagang evacuation sites sa mga piling lugar na bahain o may banta ng landslide para sa ligtas at mabilis na evacuation ng humigit-kumulang 9 na pamilya o 27 na indibidwal sa ating lungsod,” the Quezon City government said.
(As a precaution against flooding caused by heavy rains, there are designated evacuation sites in selected areas that are flooded or threatened by landslides for the safe and quick evacuation of approximately nine families or 27 individuals in our city.)
Meanwhile, in Valenzuela City, a total of 131 people or 33 families were taking shelter in Bartolome Covered Court and Valenzuela National High School as of 8 a.m.
Animal shelter areas were also designated for the pets of affected residents.
Habagat brought heavy rains and caused up to waist-deep floods in some parts of Metro Manila on Wednesday morning.
Classes in public schools and work in government agencies were suspended in the National Capital Region on Wednesday due to the inclement weather.
State weather bureau PAGASA said Habagat will bring cloudy skies with rain showers over Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Visayas on Wednesday.
PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides due to the bad weather.
Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique will have occasional rains.
La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Bicol Region, and the rest of Visayas, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, due to localized thunderstorms, the rest of the will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, according to PAGASA. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
