Two modern public utility vehicle (PUV) stops were opened along Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila on Wednesday.

The PUV stops have safety features such as CCTVs, well-lit sheds, and concrete bollards.

The structure and design of the stops had persons with disabilities (PWD) in mind as they feature PWD ramps and tactical pavers to help visually impaired commuters.

There are also exclusive seats for PWDs, pregnant passengers, and senior citizens.

The stops also feature charging stations and solar panels.

Further, the new facilities have bike racks, bike sheds, and bike repair stations as part of the government’s Active Transport Project, which encourages the use of bicycles as alternative mode of transportation.

"Ang proyektong ito ay bahagi ng mas malawak na layunin ng DOTr na gawing mas mahusay, mas ligtas, at mas accessible ang pampublikong transportasyon para sa bawat Pilipino," said Department of transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Jesus Ferdinand Ortega.

(This project is part of the bigger plan of the DOTr to improve the public transport system by making it safer and accessible.)
