E-Bike rider attacks truck with hammer in QC road rage incident
A road rage incident in Quezon City escalated when an e-bike rider struck a truck with a hammer last Friday, February 7.
According to Mark Salazar's Monday 24 Oras report, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is investigating the viral altercation, which occurred on Sgt. Rivera Street.
“Nung tinanong natin itong victim, sumingit itong e-bike, naunahan siya. Ang ginawa nitong truck driver binusinahan nang binusinahan, nairita itong naka e-bike kaya hinarang siya doon, nagkaroon sila ng commotion,” said QCPD Police Station 1 Commander Police Lieutenant Gilbert Cruz.
(The victim said the e-bike rider cut him off. The truck driver kept honking, which irritated the e-bike rider, leading to a confrontation.)
The truck driver also claimed the e-bike rider punched him before he could start recording the incident.
After the video circulated online, authorities were able to identify the e-bike rider, but he has since gone into hiding.
“Na-identify natin. Ang problema nagtatago siya ngayon. Kinakausap namin ang magulang na lumutang para malaman natin yung side niya,” said Cruz. “Sumama, sinamahan ng asawa niya sa pagtatago.”
(We identified him, but he is now avoiding authorities. We have spoken to his parents to encourage him to come forward. His wife had joined him in hiding.)
Police urged motorists to stay calm to prevent such incidents from escalating.
“Eh kung sinagasaan sila nito eh di tapos di ba? Ang laki laki ng truck nya e. Kaya konting lamig lang sa mga motorista natin,” said Cruz.
(If the truck had run them over, it could have ended badly. Drivers should stay cool-headed.)
GMA Integrated News contacted the truck driver, but his company advised him not to speak to the media.
