Ex-security guard attacks rider in Manila allegedly due to loud noises
A former security guard, who introduced himself as a policeman, ran amok along a busy street in Divisoria Market in Manila after he found the honking of vehicles loud.
In Bea Pinlac’s Monday report on “24 Oras,” the suspect caused a scene early Sunday morning as he punched one person and repeatedly toppled a motorcycle.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Christopher Baybayan, Moriones Police Station commander, said incident started when the suspect found the honking of a motorcycle and jeepney too loud.
“Nauuna sa kaniya ‘yung sinasakyan kong jeep. Busina nang busina. Sinabihan ko gusto mo bang magmadali? Lagyan mo ng pakpak at paliparin mo. Doon siya nagalit tapos hinahamon niya ako,” the suspect said.
(The jeepney I was riding was ahead of the jeepney that was honking. I told him that if he was in a hurry, he should put wings on his vehicle. That’s where he got angry and challenged me to a fistfight.)
The police immediately responded to the incident, but the suspect did not calm down. It was also reported that he attempted to take the police officer’s gun.
The suspect also pushed another motorcycle that was being put on the side of the road.
When the authorities attempted to arrest him, Baybayan said the suspect punched a policeman in the face.
The said policeman then defended himself, which gave other motorists, including those he fought with, the chance to punch the suspect.
Even when he was arrested, the suspect remained aggressive and attacked the arresting officer.
He told the police they were not legit law enforcers and said he would spit on them.
“Kung mapapansin niyo, hindi gumaganti ng suntok ‘yung mga motorista sa kaniya dahil natatakot sila’t nagpakilala siya na pulis. Nung naging kalmado na ang suspek natin, nasabi niya na may family problem siya,” Baybayan said.
(If you noticed, the motorist did not return a punch to the suspect because they were scared as he introduced himself as a policeman. When he calmed down, the suspect said he had a family problem.)
The suspect denied that he punched the policeman and attempted to snatch a gun.
“Hindi ko sinuntok. Kung inagaw ko po ‘yun, agaw talaga. Kunyari lang po para maging alerto siya na sa kaniya ako. Akala ko ako ang kakampihan niya pero mali po,” the suspect said.
(I did not punch him. If I wanted to steal the gun, I would have done so. I just pretended so that his attention would be on me. I thought he was my ally but I was wrong.)
The victims have yet to comment on the matter.
The suspect will face charges of alarm and scandal, resistance and disobedience to a person of authority, usurpation of authority, and direct assault. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News
