Fire hits Marikina warehouse; Miriam College dismisses some classes, work
A fire broke out in a warehouse in Barangay Malanday in Marikina City on Wednesday morning, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The BFP said it received the report about the fire around 11:20 a.m. The blaze reached the third alarm about 11:52 a.m.
The fire was declared under control at 2:42 p.m.
A total of 14 firetrucks and an ambulance responded to the area.
One person was reported injured after sustaining first degree burns on lower extremities, according to the BFP.
The affected warehouse on Malaya Street in Purok 7 is said to store plastic items, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Super Radyo dzBB.
Thick black smoke could be seen in the area.
Due to the fire, Miriam College - Loyola Heights Campus said classes in its grade school and high school units were dismissed at 12 noon.
“The students of the Grade School and High School units of MC Loyola Heights are dismissed at 12:00nn, 12 February 2025, due to smoke coming from the fire located at Malanday, Marikina,” it said in an advisory.
Also, the school said the work in its basic education unit is suspended at 1:00 p.m. —Joviland Rita/KG/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
