Chinese man who kicked cat to death arrested, to be deported — BI
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a Chinese man who went viral for allegedly kicking a community cat to death in Makati City after he was found to be an overstaying alien.
Immigration operatives nabbed the 32-year old Chinese citizen in front of his residence in Barangay Palanan after he was allegedly found to be an overstaying alien. He supposedly arrived in the Philippines as a tourist in May 2023 but has not extended his visa since September 2023.
He is now under BI custody and will remain at its detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig, while awaiting deportation.
“Filipinos are known to be very hospitable to our guests…but guests should not come to our houses kicking our pets. His cruel action led to the BI conducting checks on his records, and now he’s detained to be deported,” said BI Commissioner Joel Viado.
The Chinese man recently went viral on social media after he allegedly kicked to death a community cat named “Ken” at the Ayala Triangle Garden in Makati City. Animal welfare group Cara Welfare Philippines said the suspect was arrogant and refused to provide the organization with his address when he was confronted by the group.
“He told us to write to the Chinese Embassy. Because of this, he remains free to roam the streets, to roam the gardens,” the group said after the incident.
“This was not just an attack on one cat. It was a blatant violation of our law, Republic Act 8485,” it added.
RA 8485, also known as the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, is a law that protects and promotes animal welfare in the Philippines. —Sundy Locus/RF, GMA Integrated News
