Wayward SUV damages cars, gas station in QC

A seemingly out of control sport utility vehicle (SUV) damaged three vehicles and a gas station n Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a 24 Oras report by Raffy Tima, a viral video of the incident showed the SUV speeding in reverse and literally driving around a gas station at North Fairview, Quezon City.

The SUV was seen hitting portions of the station as people scrambled to avoid the speeding vehicle.

Prior to the video, the SUV hit a parked van multiple times.

The owner of the van, who was inside the vehicle during the incident, said that she felt the van shake but didn’t know that they were struck by another car.

(There were a lot of people that came out and said our van was being hit by another car. When I checked our rear, we were indeed being hit. It was not that hard but the impact caused us to move.)

Baka may baril daw,” said van driver Amelito Dula.

(I tapped his side, then checked inside. He was alone, and he was [leaning] on the wheel. I said, when I moved around, I told sir… I will knock. Sir told me not to knock, since he might have a gun.)

After calling a police officer, the driver of the SUV did not leave the car for almost 20 minutes before he moved the car, hitting the van again, then sped in reverse towards the gas station, causing additional damage.

After the situation was settled, the SUV driver seemed normal and said he did not remember what happened.

(I said, ‘Sir, what do you feel? Do you remember what happened?’ He said, ‘I don’t know. All I know is something hit me here, and it hurts.’ I said ‘Where did you come from, sir?’ ‘I came from Makati.’”)

In total, the SUV damaged three cars and destroyed a protective barrier of the gas station.

Authorities are still estimating the cost of damages caused by the wayward SUV. They said there were no casualties in the incident. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
