Metro Manila crimes during Holy Week 2025 down by 60% —NCRPO
The crime rate in Metro Manila during Holy Week dropped by 60% compared to the record in the same period last year, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Monday.
In a statement, the NCRPO said only 45 incidents of eight focus crimes were reported in the region from April 14 to 20. This is lower compared to the 113 incidents recorded last year during Holy Week.
“Metro Manila experienced a significant improvement in public safety this Holy Week, as the NCRPO reported an extraordinary 60.18% reduction in eight focus crimes from April 14–20, 2025, compared to the same period last year,” the NCRPO said.
Focus crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicles, and carnapping of motorcycles.
The most substantial declines were observed in the following crimes:
- murder - from eight cases down to one
- rape - from 18 to four
- physical Injuries - from 12 to four
- theft - from 55 to 24
Meanwhile, the NCRPO said the case solution efficiency—which refers to the percentage of resolved cases—in Metro Manila improved to 88.89% from last year's 73.45%.
A case is considered solved if the offender has been arrested and a criminal complaint has been filed.
However, the case clearance efficiency—which refers to the percentage of cleared cases—dropped to 10.23%.
A case is considered cleared if the offender has been identified and a criminal complaint has been filed.
“NCRPO is just fulfilling our mandate of peace and security. We owe this to the public and we are duty-bound to serve and protect, with competence and integrity,” NCRPO chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
