Cop in viral video arrested for alleged abuse, unlawful entry

A police officer seen in a viral video allegedly committing abuse and harassment while drunk was arrested on Monday, according to the Quezon City Police District (QPCD).

The Philippine National Police (PNP) identified the cop as Police Staff Sergeant Colonel Jordan Marzan.

In a statement on Monday evening, the QCPD said that the Marzan’s firearm has also been confiscated.

He will undergo inquest proceedings for physical injury under the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act as well as for Violation of Domicile.

In a separate statement, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said a complainant, who posted their ordeal and videos of the incident on social media, reported the cop to authorities.

The NCRPO said the police officer, under the influence of liquor, forcibly entered the house of the complainant in Barangay Damayan, Quezon City early Monday morning.

“While inside the residence without authorization, suspect allegedly confronted and accused them of wrongdoing which resulted in a heated altercation,” the NCRPO said.

“Complainant also alleged that suspect inflicted physical injuries on her minor daughter,” it added.

(He pushed one of my siblings in the bed and kneeled on his chest until he had a hard time breathing. I jumped onto him and tried to restrain him. But he was able to push me off.)

According to the NCRPO, the Marzan is a police staff sergeant assigned at the Police Station 2 of the QCPD.

The QCPD and NCRPO condemned the incident.

“NCRPO’s policy against police officers who are violating the law is non-negotiable.  You will be arrested, charged and removed from the PNP, in accord with due process of law.  There is no second chance for police scalawags,” NCRPO chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin said.

The PNP said that its Internal Affairs Service (IAS) has taken cognizance of the administrative case to ensure full accountability within the ranks.

“This is not just a case of misconduct—it is a disgraceful betrayal of the people’s trust. Let this be clear: we will not allow any abusive officer to hide behind the badge,” PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil said.

“If you harm the people you swore to protect, you will be arrested, prosecuted, and expelled from the service. No second chances. No exceptions,” he added.

While Marzan has refused to comment on the issue, 24 Oras reported that he apologized to the victims.

Victims' mother thus requested that the public not pass judgement on Marzan.

“Tama naman na inamin ng tao na nagkamali po sya. Hindi ko sya nililinis dito dahil alam ko ang mali, mali. Pero wag po tayong masyadong mapanghusga,” she said.

(He did the right the right thing by owning up to what he had done. I’m not clearing him of anything because what he did was wrong. But I hope that we don’t judge him to harshly.)
