SUV driver sought for illegally using EDSA busway — SAICT
Authorities are looking for the driver of a white sport utility vehicle on Thursday morning who evaded traffic enforcers after he was accosted for illegally using the EDSA busway near Ortigas Station, according to the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT).
In a statement, SAICT said the SUV entered the EDSA busway northbound at 10:30 a.m.
“Upon being flagged down, the driver claimed to be heading to the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Camp Aguinaldo but failed to present a valid driver’s license,” SAICT said.
“When asked to pull over to the side lane, the driver accelerated, weaving through traffic in a reckless bid to flee,” it added.
Upon checking, SAICT found that the SUV’s plate number did not match its registered vehicle type, “suggesting potential fraud.”
SAICT called on the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to issue a show cause order for the vehicle’s registered owner to require them to explain in 72 hours or they will face penalties and blacklisting.
It said authorities are now trying to determine the identity of the SUV driver.
SAICT said the EDSA busway, a dedicated lane for buses serving over 21.5 million commuters in 2025 from January to April, has faced recurring issues with unauthorized vehicles since its 2020 launch.
The committee is urging motorists and commuters to follow busway regulations and report violations through the DOTr Commuter Hotline. —Joviland Rita/RF, GMA Integrated News
