Long lines in QC for supposed ‘voters orientation’
Long lines were observed in some streets of Quezon City during the last day of campaigning for the local and national elections on Saturday.
In Vonne Aquino’s Sunday report on “24 Oras Weekend,” GMA Integrated News spotted a long queue along Maginhawa Street.
A man said a stub was being distributed, but he did not know who it was from. The man also refused to show the stub to GMA Integrated News.
Some people who exited a building had a watcher’s ID for the local and national elections.
A woman said she attended an orientation for election watchers and did not receive any compensation.
“Nag co-conduct lang po tayo ng training para sa ating mga poll watchers at sa mga boboto sa Lunes,” said attorney Kael Baula, a facilitator of the orientation.
(We are conducting a training for poll watchers and voters.)
Baula also said a certain congressman ordered the orientation, but said he did not know the name since he had just granted a favor to an acquaintance in law school.
GMA Integrated News was also not able to enter the building.
Another long queue was observed along Maginhawa Street leading to the barangay hall of Teachers Village East.
A woman said they were queuing for a meeting.
A man, who introduced himself as a counsel, said the people are lining up for the orientation of poll watchers, but only the personnel of the Commission on Elections and the Philippine National Police are allowed inside.
The gates were closed when GMA Integrated News approached it.
After a while, the people were spotted running and transferred to Baluyot Street.
GMA Integrated News has reached out to the Commission on Elections for comment.
But it previously said that it can issue a show cause order to candidates with suspicious activities relating to vote buying. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BM, GMA Integrated News
