Makati voter complains about alleged pre-shaded ballot

A voter in a precinct in Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City on Monday complained that a portion of her ballot for the 2025 Philippine elections was allegedly pre-shaded.

The voter said she noticed that another party-list was already shaded in her ballot after she had shaded her chosen party-list, according to a report by GMA Integrated News' Tina Panganiban-Perez.

She then complained to the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI).

“Chineck ko nang ganyan. Nakita ko may shade ‘yung isang ano doon, ‘yung isang party-list… Ngayon nag-complain ako sa desk nu'ng mga ano doon, mga nandoon sa table,” Elisa Repas said.

(I checked and noticed that one of the party-list groups had a shaded area… So I complained to the people at the desk there.)

“Ang sabi nila sa akin, party-list lang naman po ‘yan,” she added.

(They told me, “It’s just a party-list.")

However, a personnel of the BEI denied this, saying there were no marks on her ballot.

“Chine-check ko naman kasi pumipirma ako eh. So chine-check ko, front and back. Wala, malinis lahat. Kaya nagtataka ako. Imposible po kasi kaka-open ko lang. Anong oras pa lang 'yon, wala pang 6 o’clock,” Maila Te Lim said.

(I was checking [the ballots] because I was signing [when issuing them]. So I checked both the front and back. Nothing, everything was clean. That’s why I was surprised. It’s impossible because I had just opened [the precinct]. It was still early, not even 6 o’clock yet.)

Meanwhile, a 72-year-old man rode an ambulance from Cabuyao, Laguna to the Nemesio Yabut Elementary School in Makati City.

The senior citizen, who is suffering from cancer, is staying with his son in Laguna. However, he said he has been a voter in Makati for a long time. —Joahna Lei Casilao/KG, GMA Integrated News
