Vico Sotto to sustain reforms in last term as Pasig mayor

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said Tuesday that he would continue to advance his good governance agenda in his third and last term as local chief executive.

After receiving 286,289 votes, Sotto was expected to be declared the winner of the May 12 midterm elections. Sara Discaya, his main opponent, only garnered 24,151 votes.

When asked by GMA Integrated News about his plans after serving his third term in 2028, Sotto stated that he is focused on his current duties.

''Kailangan pang matagalan yung reporma dahil walang forever sa pulitika, sa buhay walang forever,'' Sotto said.

(Long-term reforms are necessary because, like life, there is no forever in politics.)

''Para sa akin, ang masasabing tagumpay sa term ko ay pagkatapos ng term ko sa Pasig, sa LGU namin, mas madali nang maging mabuti, mas madali nang gumawa ng tama, mas mahirap nang maging corrupt. The programs, projects, services will follow as we have seen in the last six years. Pero first things first, at yan ang magiging focus natin, hindi yung kung anong susunod na posisyon kaagad isipin, hindi po, trabaho tayo,'' he added.

(I will consider it a success after my term in Pasig if it is simple [for LGU people] to become good, simple to act morally, and difficult to become corrupt. The programs, projects, and services will follow, as we have seen in the last six years. But first things first, and that would be our priority, rather than thinking about the next position we might want to pursue.)
