Senior citizen hit by vehicles thrice in Quezon City
A 61-year-old woman died after she was hit by three vehicles in Quezon City last May 17 evening.
According to Raffy Tima’s report in “24 Oras” on Friday, CCTV footage showed that the victim was crossing near the corner of Aurora Boulevard and Illinois Street in Barangay Silangan at around 7 p.m. until a black SUV turned right and hit the woman.
There were no street lights or pedestrian crossings in the scene as seen in the footage.
In another CCTV footage, the first driver stopped somewhere and checked something in front of his car. But it suddenly moved past.
Just a few moments later, a white SUV also turned right at the corner and hit the legs of the victim, who was already lying on the ground at that time.
A sedan also turned right and ran over the victim. But unlike the first two drivers, the driver of the third car went down and checked on the victim.
“According sa imbestigador natin, sabi daw ng barangay, malamang hindi daw talaga niya nakita kasi nga madilim daw po. As per backtracking din sa CCTV, parang kung titignan daw po yung naglalakad, talagang hindi niya napansin,” said QCPD PIO chief Police Major Jennifer Gannaban.
(According to our investigator, the barangay said that the victim failed to notice that a car was coming because it was dim in the area. As per backtracking in the CCTV footage, it seemed that the driver didn't see the victim.)
The driver of the third car is already under QCPD’s custody, while the two others are still at large.
“Nanawagan tayo sa mga driver ng mga SUV na ito na nakasagasa, kung maari lang ay sumuko na sila o lumapit na sila sa pinakamalapit na police station,” said Gannaban.
(We are requesting the SUV drivers to surrender or go to the nearest police station to surrender yourselves.)
The victim’s body is now in Bulacan. Her child is ready to file charges against the drivers, the report said.
Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police will request the barangay to install street lights in the area following the brutal accident. –Vince Angelo Ferreras/NB, GMA Integrated News
