Proposed motorcycle lane along EDSA opposed by Some TNVS riders
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday said some riders of transportation network vehicle services (TNVS) opposed the proposed motorcycle lane along EDSA.
In a press briefing, MMDA Traffic Enforcement Group director Vic Nuñez said concerned government agencies had a meeting with different motorcycle rider groups on Wednesday.
“Iba’t ibang groups. Nandoon din 'ho si Congressman Rodge Gutierrez ng 1-Rider. So, ang stand ho nila, ayaw ho nila iyong naiipon lamang sila sa isang lane,” Nuñez said.
(Different groups joined the meeting. Congressman Rodge Gutierrez of 1-Rider Partylist was also there. So, their stand is they don’t want to be gathering in one lane only.)
“Sabi nila, maraming maaapektuhan na mga riders na nasa TNVS, iyong mga nagdi-deliver, so maaapektuhan naman daw po iyong mga hanapbuhay,” he added.
(They said many riders in the TNVS will be affected, those who work in delivery, so their jobs will be affected.)
Earlier, MMDA said the agency is eyeing to convert the existing bike lanes along EDSA into shared lanes for both bicycles and motorcycles to ease the expected heavy traffic during the major thoroughfare's rehabilitation.
Nuñez said the MMDA has no final decision on the matter yet, as the agency is planning to consult bikers and mobility groups about the matter first.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) earlier said the rehabilitation of EDSA is set to start on June 13 and is expected to last until 2027. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
