Families, groups of 4 only need to pay for 1 passenger to ride MRT-3, LRT-2 and LRT-1 on Sundays
To celebrate Family Day, families or barkadas of four members only need to pay for one passenger to ride the MRT-3, LRT-2 and LRT-1 every Sunday starting on June 1, 2025.
During the launch, President Ferdinand Marcos said the Family/Pamilya Pass 1+3 program was made in honor of Family Day and to celebrate Filipino families.

The First Family inaugurated the program by boarding a train at the GMA-Kamuning Station to the North Station of the MRT in Quezon City on Sunday morning. During the trip, the Marcos family interacted with commuters. Accompanying them were a number of Cabinet officials.
The President explained that Sunday is an important day for Filipinos because it is a day where families spend time with each other such as going out for bonding activities or going to church.
“Ang kultura ng Pilipino, pag Linggo, sa pamilya yan,” Marcos said. “Kapag linggo, kapag bibili ka ng ticket, plus three ang pwede mo isakay. Ibigsabihin sa isang ticket, apat ang pwede sumakay.”
(In Filipino culture, Sunday is family day. Under the promo, four people can ride the train by purchasing one ticket every Sunday.)
“Sana naman mabigyan natin ang ating mga kababayan na maramdaman nila ang linggo. Bigyan natin ng chance na magkasama na walang dagdag na bayad para lang makasama ang inyong pamilya,” he added.
(Let’s give our countrymen a chance to feel their Sundays. Let us give them a chance to spend time with their families without them spending additional cost.)
Initiated by Marcos, the program was implemented with the help of the Department of Transportation.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said under the promo, only one member of the family or a group traveling together on the same trip needs to pay for a ticket and enter the turnstile while the rest of the family will pass via the side entrance.
Aside from families, groups of four friends can also avail of the promo, the DOTr head said.
Based on the latest data provided by the Department of Transportation, at least 234,700 passengers used the MRT-3 while about 102,800 people traveled using the LRT-2 on May 25.
Based on the latest data provided by the Department of Transportation, an average of 226,000 passengers used the MRT-3 while about 95,000 people traveled using the LRT-2 on the four Sundays of May in 2025.
Public reaction
In Katrina Son’s Super Radyo dzBB report, some commuters expressed satisfaction with the Family/Pamilya Pass 1+3 program. One of them is Myka Grace Buenafe, who uses the MRT-3 with her family on Sundays to attend church services.
Other commuters also said the program would help them save money.

According to a report on Super Balita sa Hapon, the program will last until the last week of 2028.
The DOTr had also announced that commuters can soon use debit cards, credit cards, and e-wallets to pay MRT and LRT fares.
In her report on 24 Oras Weekend, Katrina Son noted that commuters welcomed the promo, saying they would be able save more money that they could use for other needs.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon said government would subsidize the program.
"Ang gobyerno naman ang nagpapatakbo ng MRT-3 at LRT-2 so mawawalan lang ng dagdag na revenue pero tulong na 'yan sabi nga ng Pangulo. Tulong 'yan para sa mga kababayan natin. Kamukha ng ginawa natin ng Labor Day na libre sakay po. Iyun po ay isa-subsidize ng gobyerno," Dizon said.
(Since the government manages MRT-3 and LRT-2, there will be a decrease in revenue but as the President said this helping our countrymen. This is similar to what we did for Labor Day with free rides. This will be subsidized by the government.)
Meanwhile, in Christian Maños’ dzBB report, the Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) challenged Marcos to ride the MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 during rush hour to truly understand the experience of commuters.
According to KMP, if the government aims to understand the commuters, it must experience the long queues and crowded trains in a commuter’s everyday encounter.
The group added that despite extending the MRT-3’s operation hours, the train remains jam-packed during rush hours. —RF, GMA Integrated News
