Suspected NCAP CCTV cable thieves nabbed

Suspected NCAP CCTV cable thieves nabbed

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday said that two persons suspected of stealing cables from its CCTV for the agency’s no-contact apprehension policy (NCAP) have been nabbed.

According to Sam Nielseb's report on Super Radyo dzBB on Friday, the two suspects were nabbed after returning to the EDSA-Guadalupe overpass in Makati City to possibly gather more cables.

Authorities were able to recover pieces of electrical wiring and several cutting tools from the suspects.

However, MMDA said in a statement that it was revealed that there were three suspects arrested on June 20 for allegedly stealing the fiber optic cables and selling it to several junk shops for an estimated value of P104,000.

MMDA added that they only discovered the theft on June 24 after the CCTVs suddenly emitted a humming noise and disconnected.

Makati City Police chief Police Colonel Reycon Garduque said that theft charges have been lodged against the two persons.

The suspects were able to identify the junk shop that bought the cables, where authorities were able to retrieve the remainder of the stolen items.

The cables will be used as evidence in the case against the suspects.

MMDA said they will work with the Philippine National Police – National Capital Region Police Office (PNP-NCRPO) to ensure that no similar incidents will occur and reminded the public that tampering with public infrastructure is illegal. — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/VAL/BAP, GMA Integrated News
