Abante proclaimed as Manila 6th District representative

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) formally proclaimed Tuesday Benny Abante as the duly-elected representative of Manila’s 6th district for Eleksyon 2025. 

The Comelec-Manila administered the proclamation in Ermita, a day after the poll body en banc issued a certificate of finality and entry of judgment on the disqualification of Joey Chua, nullifying his proclamation as the congressional winner in the city district, and clearing the way for Abante’s proclamation. 

According to the Comelec en banc, the certificate was issued after their previous ruling that dismissed the motion for reconsideration filed by Uy against the June 18 resolution that voided his certificate of candidacy (COC) became final and executory after the Supreme Court (SC) did not issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) against the decision within the five-day reglementary period. 

“The records show that no restraining order has been issued by the SC with five days from receipt of the parties of the Resolution that would preclude the June 30, 2025 resolution of this Commission (En Banc) from being final and executory,” the certificate of finality reads. 

“Now therefore, in view of the foregoing, the Resolution of the Commission (En Banc) promulgated on 30 June 2025 is hereby declared immediately executory in accordance with the Comelec Rules of Procedure,” it added. 

On Facebook, Abante expressed gratitude to the poll body as he called for unity.

"I have always believed that public service must rise above politics, and today, we recommit ourselves to serving our kababayan with humility, compassion, and integrity. Panahon na para tumutok sa taumbayan, para tugunan ang kanilang pangangailangan,” he said. 

“It is time to set aside partisanship for the sake of our people—to restore focus and work together to deliver the services, opportunities, and justice our constituents deserve,” Abante added. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
