QC vendor dies after being hit by bus

A vegetable vendor was killed after a passenger bus backed up and hit her on Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City on Sunday afternoon.

The bus plying the Alabang-Fairview route allegedly lost its brake and backed up plowing vehicles and stalls in the sidewalk, according to a report of GMA Integrated News’ James Agustin on Unang Balita on Monday.

The bus stopped after hitting a post of a footbridge.

The 53-year-old victim was dragged by the bus and her feet were caught on the wheels of the vehicle.

Due to this, Barangay Commonwealth Kagawad Elmer Buena said responders had to use an equipment to tilt the bus. After 15 to 20 minutes, the victim was rescued.

The vendor was brought to a hospital but she passed away around 6 p.m.

The 50-year-old driver is currently under the custody of the Quezon City Police District as he will face charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and multiple damage of properties.

He refused to give a statement about the incident.

QCPD Traffic Sector 5 commander Police Captain Joey Salvadico said authorities will conduct an in-depth investigation. —Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
