2 women arrested in Malabon in alleged ‘rentangay’ modus

Authorities arrested two women for their alleged involvement in stealing vehicles using the “rentangay” modus.

According to Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report on “24 Oras” on Thursday, the police instructed the victim to meet up with the suspect in a parking lot in Malabon.

The suspects agreed to meet with the victim after they were promised P300,000 in exchange for returning the two vehicles that were recently stolen.

Authorities arrested the suspects after seeing the vehicle's brake lamp lit, a sign that the suspects received the marked money from the victim inside the vehicle.

The complainant confirmed that the one who stole his vehicles and the arrested suspects were part of the same group.

(After obtaining the vehicle they rented, the suspect will no longer returned it. In some cases, the vehicle would be dismantled. This [action] adds to the ongoing cases of technical carnapping. The two suspects are the same individuals who were extorting money in exchange for the return of their two vehicles.)

GMA Integrated News is seeking a statement from the suspects. One of the suspects is facing multiple estafa cases.

“Sa ngayon, may target tayong apat na sasakyan na maibalik sa mga complainant (Right now, our target is to return four vehicles to the complainants),” Malang said.

According to the PNP-HPG, the victim asked for an ID from the suspects, but the ones presented were fake.

If possible, ask for other valid IDs to prove the identities of the renters of your vehicles),” Malang said. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News
