Some Katipunan Avenue lanes still temporarily closed due to billboard collapse
Four lanes of a portion of C5 Katipunan Avenue southbound in Quezon City remained temporarily closed to motorists on Sunday morning due to a billboard collapse incident the day before.
Personnel of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) were on site to restore the power lines damaged, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Super Radyo dzBB.
Workers were also seen busy dismantling the huge billboards that fell from a building.
A billboard collapsed and a concrete post toppled amid heavy rains along the said road before noon on Saturday, hitting three vehicles and causing traffic on the thoroughfare, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.
Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan on Sunday said it is standard protocol for billboards to be taken down when the weather is bad.
"Standard protocol na kapag may bagyo, lalo na't dadaan ito sa mga lugar na may billboards... na dapat itiklop muna ang billboards para hindi mapinsala o tumumba," Bonoan said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.
(The standard protocol is that when there is a storm, especially in areas where there are billboards, the billboards should be taken down so these will not cause damage or fall.) —KG, GMA Integrated News
