Over 350 individuals in QC evacuated due to Habagat


More than 350 individuals, or more than 100 families, from Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City were evacuated due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm Crising.

According to Carlo Mateo’s Sunday report on Super Radyo dzBB, the evacuated individuals were from high-risk or flood-prone areas in the barangay.

These areas are the Tumana, Tagumpay Extension, New Greenland, Lumang Palengkeng Ilog, Greenfield, General Luna Tabing Ilog, and Nasukum.

Among the evacuated individuals were 23 senior citizens, six persons with disabilities, three pregnant women and three pet animals.

They were brought to the Quezon City social welfare department building.

One of the residents who evacuated said their house in Tumana already got flooded.

According to Quezon City social workers, roof-level floods occurred in high-risk areas in the barangay during tropical cyclones Ulysses (2020) and Carina (2024). —Mariel Celine Serquiña/KG, GMA Integrated News
