Child swept away by flood in QC
A young boy was swept away by a raging flood in Batasan Hills in Quezon City amid the heavy downpour battering the metropolis.
According to Bernadette Reyes’ report in “24 Oras” on Monday, the child was running on the side of the road when he was carried away by strong floodwaters and fell into a large hole of a road construction site.
He was immediately chased by his father and was fortunately saved near a drainage canal.
With the continuous rains, students had to cross a waist-deep flood in General Luis Street in Novaliches. There were also vehicles which tried to cross the street despite the high level of water.
Meanwhile, motorists along Commonwealth Avenue faced gutter-deep floods which caused heavy traffic.
Parents expressed their dismay over the late suspension of classes.
“Dapat dineklara nang suspended ang classes kaninang umaga,” a father lamented while fetching his daughter from school.
(They should have suspended the classes early this morning.)
“Sobrang hirap po. Sana kaninang umaga pa sila nag-cancel ng pasok. Ang mga kalsada matubig na,” a mother said.
(It's such an inconvenience. They should have cancelled the classes earlier. The roads are now flooded.)
Aside from Quezon City, gutter-deep flood was also an inconvenience for motorists and commuters along Taft Avenue in Manila.
Malacañang earlier suspended classes and work in government offices in Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Batangas, Laguna, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan at 1 p.m. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
