NBI arrests alleged scammer posing as LTO employee in Manila
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday announced the arrest of an alleged scammer in an entrapment operation at a mall in Manila.
According to the NBI, the individual would pose as an employee of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and claim that he can facilitate the processing of a driver’s license and registration of motor vehicles for a fee.
However, the bureau said that verification with LTO showed that the man is neither an employee nor authorized to perform official transactions on its behalf.
It also found that the individual has a warrant of arrest for statutory rape that was issued by the Cabanatuan City Regional Trial Court Branch 26.
This led NBI agents to conduct the entrapment operation on July 28. It said he was caught in flagrante delicto with a bladed weapon.
The NBI said a complaint was filed against him for usurpation of authority and official function, estafa, and illegal use of fictitious name with the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office.
It said it also recommended that he be charged for the concealed weapon. —Joahna Lei Casilao/KG, GMA Integrated News
