QC gov't probes Tomas Morato condo falling debris incident
The Quezon City government has launched an investigation after three students were injured when they were hit by falling concrete debris in front of a condominium on Tomas Morato Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.
In a statement issued Tuesday evening, the local government unit said it is studying possible complaints against those who are accountable for the incident.
“Inatasan na po natin ang ating mga tanggapan para mapag-aralan ang anumang kaso na maaaring isampa sa sinumang may pananagutan,” the QC government said.
(We have instructed our offices to study any cases that may be filed against anyone accountable.)
“Naglunsad na rin tayo ng kaukulang pagsisiyasat upang mapanagot ang nagkasala sa insidenteng ito na maaari sanang naiwasan,” it added.
(We have also launched the appropriate investigation to hold accountable those responsible for this incident that could have been avoided.)
The city government vowed to give assistance to the victims and their families through its Social Services and Development Department.
At around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said that the victims—all minors and students of Don Roces Science High School—were walking in front of the building when a portion of concrete from the upper structure fell.
Personnel from Kamuning Police Station 10 responded, secured the area, and coordinated with emergency responders to ensure public safety.
Two of the victims, found lying on the pavement, suffered severe injuries on the head. Meanwhile, the other victim sustained injury on the arm.
The victims were immediately rushed to Capitol Medical Center for medical treatment, according to the police.
One of them was still unconscious as of Tuesday evening.
“The QCPD is working closely with the concerned agencies to inspect the site, assess the structural integrity of the building, and ensure that surrounding structures pose no danger to the public,” the QCPD said:
“Likewise, a thorough investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident and establish accountability,” it added.
