DOTr: 'Mt. Kamuning' footbridge to be replaced by December 2025
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is targeting to complete the replacement for the NIA-Southroad-Scout Borromeo footbridge—infamously tagged as "Mt. Kamuning" for its high stairways—as well as the rehabilitation of the EDSA Busway's Kamuning Station by December this year.
On Thursday, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, and House Transportation Committee Chairman Representative Franz Pumaren led the groundbreaking for the improvement works at the EDSA Busway Kamuning Concourse, which would include pedestrian-friendly walkway and wheelchair lifts for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The DOTr has earmarked a budget of P89,129,402.57 for the rehabilitation, and the construction of the "Mt. Kamuning" footbridge replacement.
To recall, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. ordered the replacement of the Mt. Kamuning footbridge, which was criticized for its height of equivalent to four to five floors of a building.
"Nu'ng nakita ito ng Pangulo talagang nadismaya siya. Ang sabi niya hindi dapat pinapahirapan ang pedestrian at mga komyuter kaya agad-agad ipinag-utos niya ang pagpapatanggal nitong Mt. Kamuning," said Dizon.
(When the President saw this, he was really dismayed. He said pedestrians and commuters shouldn't be made to suffer like this. So he immediately ordered the removal of Mt. Kamuning.)
"Sabi nga ng Pangulo, hindi na makakapaghintay ang mga komyuter natin. Matagal na silang naghihirap kaya bibilisan natin ang construction nito," added the Transport chief.
(As the President said, our commuters cannot wait any further. They have suffered long enough so we will expedite the construction.)
Dizon said the construction of the footbridge will not disrupt traffic flow due to the utilization of pre-fabricated construction methods. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
