Tomas Morato condo willing to cooperate in 'falling debris' probe
The management of the condominium involved in the falling concrete debris incident that injured three students on Tomas Morato Avenue is open to cooperate in the investigation, according to the Quezon City Police Department (QCPD).
“The Atherton Place Condominium management has expressed its willingness to cooperate with the investigation,” QCPD said in a statement released on Friday.
“The QCPD assures a swift and comprehensive probe into the matter, as the safety and well-being of the public remain its top priority.”
According to the police, two of the victims who suffered injuries to the head are still in the intensive care unit, while the other one has been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for minor injuries.
“In response to the incident, QCPD has activated a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to determine the cause and identify the parties responsible,” the QCPD said.
“A thorough investigation is ongoing, in coordination with concerned government agencies, to assess the structural safety of the condominium and nearby buildings,” it added.
The Quezon City government has also launched an investigation into the incident.
At 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, the QCPD said the victims—all minors and students of Don Roces Science High School—were walking in front of the building when a portion of concrete from the upper structure fell.
Personnel from Kamuning Police Station 10 responded, secured the area, and coordinated with emergency responders to ensure public safety.
Two of the victims, found lying on the pavement, suffered severe injuries to the head. Meanwhile, the other victim sustained an injury on the arm.
GMA Integrated News is reaching out to the building administrators for comment, but no one is available to release a statement as of posting time. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
