Manila City under 'Blue Alert,' preparing for effects of Habagat, LPA

Manila City has been placed under a "Blue Alert" status as part of preparations for the possible effects of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that is enhanced by a Low Pressure Area (LPA), the Manila Public Information Office announced.

According to the announcement, the alert status was raised at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

"Ayon sa DOST-PAGASA at sa ating Resident Meteorologist ay possibleng makaranas ng mahina hanggang sa katamtaman na kung minsa'y malakas na pag-ulan ang lungsod bukas, August 27, 2025 (Wednesday)," the information office said.

(According to DOST-PAGASA and our Resident Meteorologist, the city is likely to experience light to moderate, sometimes heavy rains tomorrow, August 27, 2025, Wednesday.)

The alert status, the informtion office said, is a response to the directive of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to prepare for the rainy season.

"Inaabisuhan po namin ang publiko na manatiling handa at alerto lalo na po sa mga lugar na malapit sa dagat at mga ilog dahil sa possibleng pagbaha. Ugaliing tumutok sa mga updates ng ating mga awtoridad at sumunod sa kanilang mga abiso."

(We advise the public to remain prepared and alert, especially in areas near the sea and rivers due to possible flooding. Please pay close attention to updates from our authorities and follow their warnings.

According to PAG-ASA's 4 p.m. update, most parts of Luzon will experience cloudy skies and rains in the next 24 hours because of the low pressure area, which currently has a small chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

At 3 p.m. Tuesday, the LPA was seen over the coastal waters of Mercedes, Camarines Norte.

The LPA will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Camarines Norte, and Camarines Sur. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
