Chinese, 2 Koreans nabbed in alleged scam hub in Pasay City
A Chinese man and two Korean citizens were arrested after operatives of the Bureau of Immigration Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) raided a scam hub in Pasay City.
According to John Consulta’s exclusive report in “24 Oras” on Friday, the operatives caught the two Korean men in the act using the desktop computers, which are allegedly used for their scamming activities. Meanwhile, the alleged Chinese boss was found packing up his things to evade authorities.
The raid stemmed from a complaint of another Chinese citizen who pointed to the whereabouts of the suspects, the BI-FSU said.
“Nag-ugat ang operasyon natin na ito base sa isang complaint na pinadala sa atin ng Chinese din na sinasabing nakatakas siya sa isang Chinese boss, kung saan sila ay kinukulong, pinoposas, at pinipilit magtrabaho sa kanyang scam hub,” said BI-FSU chief Rendel Sy.
(Our operation originated from a complaint sent to us by a Chinese national who said he escaped from a Chinese boss, where they were locked up, handcuffed, and forced to work in his scam hub.)
There are no other people around in the raided condominium units, as authorities believe that other foreign workers have already escaped, according to the report.
“Nag-shift na sa guerilla style na operation so mas madaling ikubli, nagpapanggap sila na magkakaibigan lamang or magkakapamilya sa isang residential unit, ayun pala doon na pala sila gumagawa ng scam operations,” said Sy.
(They've shifted to a guerrilla-style operation, so it's easier to hide. They pretend to be just friends or family in a residential unit, but it turns out they're actually doing scam operations there.)
The suspects are being held at the detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
