Vintage mortar found in Manila drainage

A subcontractor of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) found a vintage mortar during the declogging of a drainage system in Sampaloc, Manila on Tuesday morning, the city police said.

Based on a police report from the Manila Police District (MPD), the DPWH subcontractor and his men found the vintage mortar during the rehabilitation of the drainage on Negros Street corner Visayan Street in Barangay 565.

They reported it to the police.

The MPD personnel arrived and saw the vintage bomb, which is a 60-millimeter mortar (HE) round with complete pins intact.

Authorities completed the operation without any untoward incident, according to the MPD. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
