Street parking guidelines to be presented September 16 —MMDA

The street parking guidelines for the National Capital Region is set to be presented on September 16, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Wednesday.

In a press conference, MMDA chairperson Romando Artes said the Department of the Interior and Local Government will present this at the Metro Manila Council meeting.

“I don’t want to preempt. Hintayin natin. May meeting yata kami ng September 16, I think sa MMC. It will be presented by the DILG,” Artes said.

He added that the MMC–composed of 17 mayors in the region—is expected to issue a resolution on the guidelines for street parking.

Likewise, the DILG is expected to issue a memorandum circular on the same matter, according to the MMDA official.

In August, MMDA and DILG suggested a partial parking ban on public streets in Metro Manila. However, the two agencies were considering different schedules.

DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the agency proposed to ban street parking in the region between 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

MMDA’s Artes wanted implementing a ban on side street parking only during rush hours, covering 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, MMC president San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said the NCR local chief executives prefer retaining their individual ordinances on non-busy streets. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
