P5K fine for improper garbage disposal to be imposed in Metro Manila cities
The Metro Manila Council (MMC) has agreed to standardize the penalty for improper garbage disposal in Metro Manila, with a P5,000 maximum fine for cities in the metropolis.
During the joint MMC and Regional Development Council meeting with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Pasig City on Tuesday, this includes garbage thrown in creeks, roads, and sewers, among others.
The P5,000 fine is the maximum penalty for violating ordinances in cities according to Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991.
The only exemption to the new P5,000 fine was the lone municipality of Pateros, which retains their fine at P2,500 in accordance with RA 7160’s set fines for municipalities.
The MMC earlier said it would push to impose heavier fines against persons who will dispose of garbage in rivers and creeks in the National Capital Region.
Meanwhile, San Juan City mayor and MMC President Francis Zamora assured residents not to worry over the increased fines as violators will only be required to pay. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
