Motorcycle rider dead after being hit by jeepney in Caloocan
A motorcycle rider died, and his wife was injured after they were hit by a speeding jeepney that counterflowed along F.S. Samano Road in Camarin, Caloocan City last Saturday, September 27.
According to James Agustin’s report on "Unang Balita" on Tuesday, the couple aboard the motorcycle were thrown off due to the impact of the collision. Barangay rescuers who happened to be passing by the area immediately helped them.
“Yung dalawa, sir, nakadapa…Tinapik ko yung dalawa, kuwan pa naman sila, gumagalaw. Tinanong namin kung anong pangalan, taga-saan sila, sinabi naman po, sir,” said Barangay 175 rescuer Luis Noces.
(The two were lying on the ground…I tapped on them, and they were still conscious. We asked for their names and addresses, which they answered.)
The two victims were brought to the hospital. However, the 32-year-old male rider died, while his 29-year-old wife is still confined in the hospital.
The motorcycle was heavily damaged, while the jeepney was found blocking the road as its driver escaped.
The family of the victims said that the rider was supposed to bring his wife to work when the incident happened. Aside from his wife, the rider left their two daughters, ages four and 13, orphaned.
“Para sa akin po, napakasakit po sa akin, parang hindi ko matanggap na ganun ang nangyari sa anak ko,” the mother of the fatality said.
(It’s hard for me to accept what happened to my son.)
The female victim will still undergo further surgeries, particularly on her left arm and on her hips, the report said.
The jeepney operator already provided financial assistance to the victims. Police have also identified the suspect, who is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, serious physical injuries, and damage to property. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/VBL, GMA Integrated News
