Fire at Quezon City warehouse put out after 12 hours

A fire hit a warehouse in Barangay Santol, Quezon City on Sunday morning and was finally put out almost 12 hours later on Sunday evening.

The fire started at 7:21 a.m. at a warehouse on Silencio Street, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Super Radyo dzBB.

The BFP said the warehouse contained construction materials including lumber.

The fire reached the third alarm before it was put out at 7:08 p.m. Sunday by firefighters who used breathing apparatus and a fire suppression robot due to the thick smoke.

“May mga nagpe-penetrate po sa loob, at the same time po, meron po tinatawag na cover exposure, wherein ‘yung mga hindi pa po nadadamay na structure, binobomba na po natin para po ‘yung heat transfer ma-prevent po,” Fire Senior Superintendent Rodrigo Reyes said in a report on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

(We were able to penetrate the interior [with water] and at the same time we also did cover exposure by dousing water on structures which have not yet caught fire in order to prevent heat transfer.)

The warehouse guard said there was no one inside when the fire broke out. The guard said a helper informed him that there was smoke coming from the warehouse, prompting him to seek help from the BFP.

Fire investigators are still probing the cause of the fire and the extent of damage.

The ceiling of a nearby building that was being used as the quarters of stay-in employees of the warehouse was also damaged.

“Sinasabi nga kanina ng mga iba, may hardware, tapos may mga parang appliances na parang rice cooker, marami daw laman sa loob,” Edmund Cruz, a kagawad of the barangay, said in the same report.

(Earlier, some were saying that there were hardware and appliances such as rice cookers inside. There were a lot of items inside.)
