Delivery rider shot dead in Pasay cellphone robbery

A 31-year-old delivery rider was shot dead by three unidentified suspects in Pasay City last Friday night, with police looking at a robbery gone wrong as the cause.

The delivery rider, set to deliver food in Pasay City, was found sprawled on the streets of Barangay 190, Zone 20 in Pasay City on Friday night when authorities found him, along his motorcycle that lay on its side.

Authorities believe the three suspects who have yet to be named shot him after he retrieved his cellphone which they attempted to steal.

“Nakatambay lang ‘yung mga suspects doon sa corner ng street na ‘yun. Kinuha nila ‘yung cellphone, kaya lang naagaw din ng victim. So nung maagaw ng biktima, dun na, binaril na nung mga suspects,” Pasay Police chief Police Colonel Joselito De Sesto said in a report on GMA’s “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday.

(The suspects were hanging out on the corner of that street. They took the cellphone, but the victim managed to grab it back. After the victim retrieved it, that’s when the suspects shot him.)

The suspects were then caught on video footage fleeing from the scene, as they ran through a nearby alleyway. One of them was recorded heading back for the supposed gunman.

De Sesto said police have already identified two of the three the suspects, who previously served time in jail.

“Bale itong mga suspects natin, nahuli na natin ‘yung dalawa last 2019. May kaso silang illegal possession of firearms tsaka illegal possession of drugs. Malamang hindi rehistrado ‘yung baril na ginamit,” he said.

(So these suspects, we already apprehended two of them last 2019. They have charges on illegal possession of firearms and illegal possession of drugs. Most likely, the gun they used wasn’t registered.)

Authorities are still searching for the suspects, who will face charges of robbery with homicide. —Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/RF, GMA Integrated News
