2 nabbed in QC for alleged extortion of Korean family
Two suspects were arrested in an entrapment operation for the alleged extorting a Korean family, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said on Monday.
The victims said they paid the suspects over P160,000 for the processing of their working visa and alien certificate of registration in June, according to a report of GMA Integrated News’ James Agustin on Unang Balita.
However, the suspects failed to provide the documents after three months.
The victims checked their papers with the Bureau of Immigration and discovered that no applications were even submitted.
“Ang Korean national na complainant gusto na niyang bawiin ang pera tapos yung kanilang passport,” Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit’s general assignment section chief Police Lieutenant Daryl Manago said.
(The Korean complainant wanted to get their money and passports back.)
“Pero itong ating mga suspek ayaw nang i-release. Sinabihan sila na magbigay na lang kayo ng additional P70,000 para mag-push through na ito,” he added.
(But these suspects don’t want to return the money. Instead they told the victims to just give an additional P70,000 for the processing to push through.)
With this, authorities set up an entrapment operation against the suspects.
According to Manago, one of the suspects introduced himself as a nephew of a high-ranking police official and claimed that they have contacts inside the Bureau of Immigration.
The suspects refused to give any statement.
