2 volunteer firefighters attacked by residents of Port Area, Manila
Two volunteer firefighters were assaulted by residents while responding to a fire in Barangay 650, Port Area, Manila, on Friday afternoon, according to a report by Super Radyo dzBB’s Manny Vargas.
“Binugbog po ako dahil naghihintay po ako ng tubig dahil gawa ng wala pang supply kasi hinihintay yung supply. Ngayon, wala raw tubig. Yun binugbog na nila ako. Maya-maya dumating,” one of the volunteers said.
(I was beaten because I was waiting for water, as there was no supply yet. Now, they said there was no water, so they beat me. The water supply came later on.)
“Dalawa sila. Hinampas ako ng dos por dos sa likod pati yung kasama ko. Kaya tumakbo ako agad,” he added.
(There were two of them. They hit me in the back with wood and another firefighter volunteer, so I ran immediately.)
The volunteers will file charges against the perpetrators, Jamie Santos said in a report on "24 Oras."
In an update, the Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region (BFP-NCR) said the fire was reported at 1:28 p.m. and reached the second alarm at 1:34 p.m.
The fire was declared out at 2:22 p.m.
