Truck passenger, rider dead in separate road accidents in QC, Cebu
A passenger died after jumping from a truck in Quezon City, while a motorcycle rider was killed after being run over by a dump truck in Cebu.
According to Jhomer Apresto’s Wednesday report on “Saksi,” the front part of a wing van was heavily damaged after it hit a traffic light post at the intersection of Mindanao Avenue and Congressional Avenue in Quezon City past 2 a.m.
The truck driver and another passenger, meanwhile, sustained injuries.
According to the truck driver, they came from Pampanga and were on their way to Taytay, Rizal to deliver 22 tons of flour.
He said the truck lost its brakes while he was turning left at the Congressional intersection.
He added that they inspected the brakes before traveling.
Before crashing into the post, the truck also hit another vehicle and a taxi. Its passengers were all safe.
The truck driver and passenger are under the custody of QCPD Traffic Sector 6.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle driver died in Mandaue City, Cebu after he lost balance while overtaking a truck and was run over by the vehicle.
Barangay Banilad Captain Greg Yap said the incident was a self-accident.
He added that the area is accident-prone due to being slippery.
Yap asked the DPWH to overlay the road with asphalt to prevent accidents.
In Zamboanga, the 40-foot container was removed after it fell from a 10-wheeler truck on Tuesday.
According to the truck driver, they were on their way back from the town proper after unloading goods when it got caught on a telecom cable.
