Motorist, cyclist figure in road rage incident in Marikina City

A motorist and a cyclist got into a fistfight in Marikina City after the former reportedly honked at the cyclist for not staying in the proper lane for bikes.

According to EJ Gomez’s report on “24 Oras” on Thursday, the road rage incident happened on Gil Fernando Avenue in Barangay Sto. Nino on Tuesday.

A witness saw the infuriated cyclist attacking the motorist behind the wheel of the white sedan, resulting in the two men exchanging blows.

Some bystanders attempted to intervene, after which the cyclist allegedly attempted to flee the scene but the driver of the sedan engaged him in a tug-of-war over his bicycle.

Police said the altercation began when the 40-year-old cyclist switched to the middle lane to avoid a puddle, prompting the sedan’s driver to honk at him.

The cyclist then chased the vehicle after the driver allegedly cursed at him. The cyclist then set down his bike in front of the vehicle to block it before attacking the driver.

The road rage incident lasted around 30 minutes. The car and the bicycle did not sustain any damage, with both parties eventually settling their differences.

Authorities reminded the public to be extra patient especially on the road to avoid such incidents. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/JMA, GMA Integrated News
