NCR on high alert as typhoon Uwan approaches
Cities in the National Capital Region (NCR) are on high alert as typhoon Uwan approaches, expected to impact the area over the weekend.
Manila has been placed on red alert by the MDRRMO following recommendations from Mayor Isko Moreno and MDRRMO Director Arnel Angeles.
All response teams are on standby, and rescue equipment--including boats, life vests, chainsaws, and ropes--is ready for deployment.
Contractors have been instructed to follow safety protocols, while signages and billboards are being secured.
Caloocan has also declared red alert. Mayor Along Malapitan warned of heavy rainfall and strong winds that could trigger flooding, urging residents to monitor creeks and rivers closely.
Pasay City is preparing flood-prone areas by trimming trees, securing advertisements, and placing life-saving equipment strategically. Evacuation and health centers have been cleaned, stocked, and prepared for immediate use.
Pasig City began setting up and equipping evacuation centers on Saturday.
Barangay officials and the City Social Welfare and Development Office are ready to manage the camps. A red alert has been in effect since noon, and residents are urged to follow instructions for pre-emptive evacuation.
Quezon City activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate hazard monitoring, response deployment, and evacuation operations.
Pre-emptive evacuations have already started in flood-prone areas, including Barangay Old Capitol Site and Barangay San Vicente.
Navotas authorities advised residents to stock up on water and delay garbage disposal to prevent sewer blockages.
The Navotas Navigational Gate has been temporarily closed to prevent seawater from flooding streets during high tide, while floodgates remain operational.
Following a request from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the city announced the temporary closure of the Navotas Navigational Gate.
Las Piñas conducted declogging operations in several barangays, including Pulang Lupa Dos, Saint Joseph Subdivision, and Brgy. Talon Tres.
Taguig City reported fully equipped evacuation centers and ongoing river dredging to ensure proper rainwater flow.
